Personal Experience
Navigating the complexities of adulthood can be challenging, particularly when it involves adapting to diverse cultural landscapes. I’m Margo Maxon, a licensed mental health counselor, here to offer a supportive space where you can explore the multifaceted aspects of your life. Having spent my childhood and adolescent years in two countries and my adult years relocating to various states in the USA, I’ve had to adapt to various world cultures and work cultures, developing a deep understanding of the challenges that come with acculturation. This experience, combined with my neurodivergent identity, multicultural background, and non-binary perspective, allows me to help clients navigate the intricate dynamics of family culture, world culture, and work culture. My master’s degree in counseling psychology, along with extensive clinical training, equips me to translate these experiences and skills into practical support for my clients. Whether you’re grappling with identity, relationships, or professional challenges, my goal is to guide you toward a place of clarity and empowerment, drawing on my personal and professional insights to support your journey.
Working with Adults
I deeply understand the challenges of navigating complex identities. As a systemic thinker, my therapeutic lens is rooted in interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) and neurorelational approaches with an attachment focus, which allows me to provide adults with a validating and affirming space where they can explore their vulnerabilities, values, and beliefs without the fear of being misunderstood or discriminated against. I see myself as a guide, drawing upon your resilience and intrinsic motivation as we work together to uncover the patterns and themes causing distress in your life. Without shaming the survival and coping strategies that have helped you through adversity, we will curiously explore what fulfillment means to you on your terms and identify barriers to achieving it. Through our collaboration, therapy can bring forth profound healing and transformation, helping you feel truly seen, heard, and appreciated just as you are.
Approach to Therapy
I focus on creating a space for deep exploration and healing rooted in cultural humility. I incorporate a range of holistic and evidence-based modalities, including Lifespan Integration (LI), Mind-Body Approaches such as EMDR, and Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address complex, intergenerational, and systemic trauma, anxiety, grief and loss. My approach is also informed by my training in Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), which enhances the therapeutic relationship by fostering a connection between mind, body, and emotion. Additionally, I draw upon Compassion-Based Approaches to hold space for shame and internalized oppression, and integrate Behavioral Activation (BA) techniques to combat depression and anxiety. Through this multifaceted systemic approach, I aim to empower clients to move beyond their struggles, fostering resilience and a renewed sense of well-being.
