Couples Counseling & Marriage Therapy
Rebuild Connection, Communication, and Trust
to Rediscover the Partnership You Both Deserve
Living with a Stranger Who Used to Be Your Best Friend?
Every Conversation Becomes a Fight You Never Meant to Start
The Silence Between You Is Louder Than the Arguments
You Both Want the Same Thing—But Keep Hurting Each Other Trying to Get It

Common Reasons Couples Seek Therapy
- Frequent arguments that go nowhere and leave you both frustrated
- Feeling unheard or misunderstood by your partner
- Growing emotional distance despite living in the same space
- Cycles of conflict that repeat without resolution
- Longing for the connection you once shared
These struggles don’t mean your relationship is failing—they mean it’s time to invest in the tools and understanding that can transform how you connect. You’re not alone in this struggle, and your relationship isn’t beyond repair.
When Love Feels Lost, Hope Remains
You once felt deeply connected to your partner. You could talk for hours, laugh together, and navigate life’s challenges as a team. But somewhere along the way, that closeness began to fade. Now conversations feel strained, misunderstandings pile up, and the emotional distance between you grows wider each day.
It can get even worse. What if you’re dealing with infidelity or are on the edge of separation or divorce? What if the trust is gone and every conversation turns into an argument? Hope for a happy relationship is difficult to hold on to. What can you do?
A Different Approach to Couples Therapy
We specialize in helping couples rediscover their emotional connection while building practical communication skills that last. Using proven methods from Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy combined with personalized strategies, we’ll work together to:
Understand Your Unique Context Every relationship exists within its own complex world of values, experiences, and challenges. Rather than applying one-size-fits-all solutions, we’ll explore what makes your partnership unique and what specific barriers are preventing the connection you desire.
Break Destructive Patterns Those recurring arguments and moments of disconnection follow predictable patterns. Once we identify these cycles, we can interrupt them and create new, healthier ways of engaging with each other.
Build Lasting Skills You’ll leave therapy with concrete tools and strategies that work for your specific relationship. These aren’t temporary fixes—they’re foundational skills that will serve you for years to come.
What You Can Expect in Our Work Together
Compassionate Understanding Your struggles with communication and connection are valid and understandable. You’ll find a safe space here where both partners can be heard without judgment, where your pain is acknowledged, and where your desire for change is honored.
Realistic Hope While change takes time and effort, transformation is possible. You’ll begin seeing shifts in how you understand each other and respond to conflict, often within the first few sessions.
Practical Tools Beyond emotional support, you’ll gain specific techniques for communicating more effectively, managing conflict constructively, and maintaining emotional intimacy even during stressful periods.
Personalized Approach Your relationship doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s to be successful. We’ll work within your values, lifestyle, and goals to create the partnership that works for both of you.
Your relationship deserves the investment
You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. The connection you’re seeking—the ability to truly understand and be understood by your partner—is within reach. You both deserve to feel heard, valued, and deeply connected.

Areas of Focus for Couples
Communication
Effective communication is the foundation of a healthy and fulfilling relationship. Our therapists are skilled in helping couples identify and address communication barriers and improve active listening skills. Through evidence-based approaches like Emotion-Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) and tools from the Gottman Method, we assist couples in developing a deeper understanding of each other.
Premarital
Premarital counseling provides a valuable opportunity for couples to explore and address potential areas of concern before taking the significant step of marriage. Our therapists guide couples through discussions on communication styles, family of origin issues, conflict resolution, financial management, intimacy, and family planning.
Divorce
The decision to end a marriage is often a difficult and emotional one, especially when children are involved. Our therapists offer support and guidance to couples navigating the complexities of divorce, including co-parenting dynamics, minimizing the impact on children, and fostering healthy communication and relationships within the family unit.
Infidelity
Infidelity can be a devastating experience that can erode trust and emotional intimacy within a relationship. Our therapists provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space for couples to process the complex emotions surrounding infidelity, explore the underlying issues, work on repairing trust and if you choose to rebuild your relationship, help you find a path forward.
Decision Therapy
Sometimes couples reach the brink. One may be unsure about working on the relationship and have a different goal than their partner. Our trained couples counselors can help navigate this and create the space to talk about what is next and guide you towards a common goal.
Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity refers to the natural variations in human brain function and cognitive abilities. Couples where one or both partners are neurodiverse (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia), may face unique challenges in their relationship. We have therapists who are experienced in working with neurodiverse couples, providing a supportive environment to explore and understand each partner’s unique perspectives and needs.
Treatment Modalities
Strengthening your attachment bond
A secure attachment bond between two partners is the foundation of a good relationship. Since relationships are all about, “Do you care how I feel?” All the models and methods we use are in support of couples working to repair, heal, and strengthen this bond. We focus on enhancing the emotional, physical and intimate connections that determine success or failure in a relationship.
EFCT – Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
EFCT is a highly effective and evidence-based approach that helps couples understand and transform their emotional experiences, improve communication, and deepen their emotional connection and intimacy. It emphasizes emotional awareness, rebuilding trust, embracing vulnerability, and processing attachment injuries to foster a secure emotional bond.
Our therapists are skilled in utilizing EFCT to provide tailored support and guidance to couples. We help enhance emotional awareness and expression, teaching partners to identify and share their emotional experiences safely. Through emotion coaching, we assist couples in responding to each other’s emotional cues supportively, promoting emotional regulation and strengthening their bond. Additionally, we guide couples in reframing negative interaction cycles, embracing vulnerability, and processing attachment injuries to facilitate healing, forgiveness, and restoration of emotional safety and connection.
Internal Family Systems
The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model helps people understand and heal by exploring different “parts” within themselves, each with its own feelings and intentions. In IFS counseling, the goal is to help the core “Self” compassionately lead these parts, creating more balance and inner harmony. This gentle approach can foster self-awareness, improve emotional well-being, and support lasting personal growth.
Gottman Tools
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach that focuses on strengthening communication, friendship, intimacy, and building effective conflict management tools within the couple’s relationship. Our therapists utilize tools from the Gottman Method and its evidence-based strategies to help couples improve their communication and responsiveness to each other.

FAQs
How does couples counseling work?
Couples counseling is a process to help partners learn to express their emotions, wants and needs in an effective way, and help partners find ways to respond so that the relationship will work for both. A professional and trained couples counselor will work to be “mutually biased” so that you both feel understood and acknowledged as you work to create the relationship you both want.
How do I know if couples therapy is right for us?
If you’re both willing to invest in change and neither partner is dealing with active addiction or domestic violence, couples therapy can be highly effective. Even if only one of you is initially motivated, we can often work with that dynamic.
What if my partner won’t come to therapy?
While couples therapy works best with both partners present, individual therapy focused on relationship skills can still create positive changes in your partnership dynamics.
What happens in the first session?
We’ll explore your relationship history, current challenges, and goals for therapy. You’ll both have the opportunity to share your perspective in a structured, supportive environment.
How long does couples therapy take?
Most couples begin seeing improvements within 3-5 sessions, though the timeline varies based on your specific challenges and goals. We’ll regularly assess progress and adjust our approach as needed.
Do you work with gay, lesbian and polyamorous?
The foundation of love is a secure attachment bond. This transcends gender and even numbers. The process is the same: learn to communicate your emotions, wants and needs as well as learn to respond effectively to your partner. The goal is always love and respect.
Will the counselor determine who is at fault?
Our main couples treatment modality is called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. The model’s core belief is that neither of you are broken or need to be fixed. Rather the negative cycle of communication is the problem. We work to help you each understand how you impact your partner and how you contribute to the chain of events in that negative cycle.
Do you offer telehealth therapy?
Yes, we offer in-office and telehealth therapy.
Is telehealth confidential and secure?
We use HIPAA compliant software to ensure your confidentiality.
How often should we attend therapy?
The general suggested pace of couples therapy is once per week. This helps build momentum toward breaking the negative cycle. It is important to avoid long stretches between at least the initial four or five sessions, so you do not fall back in or stay very long in that negative cycle.
How do we prepare for counseling?
Be open and committed to the process. Working on your relationship is not something you can do by talking to a counselor once per week. Real change requires a commitment to the process. Success in couples counseling is mostly determined by the level of engagement from each partner, not the level of distress.
